Whale watching season is December to April where you will get the chance to spot these gigantic mammals swimming alongside your vessel. Mirissa, Trincomalee and Kalpitiya are the trips you should make if you want to experience Whale Watching. Blue Whales and Sperm Whales are mainly the two types of whales that can be spotted since their migration path is close to the Dondra Point making it a 95% percent chance to spot them. You need to avoid choppy rough days where morning ours are the best. Kalpitiya is another destination for Whale watching. But in Kalpitiya whale sightings are not that frequent compared to Dondra.
